Sherwood Forest Faire being planned for 2010

A forum member over at RenaissanceFestival.com has been researching and planning a new faire for the Austin area of Texas. He announced this week:

We executed a contract last week on 87 acres of beautiful wooded land approx 40 miles east of Austin, Texas on US Highway 290 (approx 110 miles from downtown houston). Our plans are to begin infrastructure development of the land (clearing, gravel roads, electrical, fencing, etc) within four months…and to have it ready to host the First Annual Sherwood Forest Renaissance Faire in the spring of 2010. It will be designed such that the grounds can be used during the off season for folk and bluegrass music festival, drumming events, and the like.

He goes on to detail the things he wants to accomplish and requests input from potential playtrons, merchants, performers, and cast. Read his thoughts in the “Sherwood Forest Faire” in the South Forums section at RenaissanceFestival.com

We at FaireNews.com wish him and his company all the best.

Thanks for the heads up, Al, and welcome to FaireNews. Sherwood Forest Faire now has their own forum in the South section of RenaissanceFestival.com and I’ve changed the link to take you to that forum. There’s lots of good stuff in there. Rengypsy has progressed quite a way down the path he has set for himself and the Faire!!

    Hey,
Saw the sign on 290 today, July 6th, 2009. I attended the first -and a few thereafter- annual Plantersville festivals. There was something about the absence of baby strollers that lended more authenticity to those early festivals. Gave the range of entertainment much more possibility, from Tim Roth’s Mudpit barker, to the baudy busty wenches… and all the language that fit in between. Yeah, maybe more money in the short term followed the toned-down baby carriage years (who’s popularity was built on the more authentic presentation), but that sort of atmosphere is less recession-proof. Just a personal observation. Looking forward to attending either way (but honestly will spend less if the strollers are as prolific as Plantersville these days).

I just went to the opening weekend camping all weekend. I dress up and go religiously to Texas Renaissance Festival in Houston, since I live there. I have been to many first year fairs and was never impressed at all. I was hoping a better opening with this one, since I know a lot of the people who are involved. But what i saw this weekend went above and beyond all my hopes and expectations!!! I was immensely impressed!! They had more buildings than most 10yr fairs I’ve seen. The actors were top notch, the performers were fabulous (many taken from TRF and Scarborough). The location was very woodsy and felt like you had stepped back 800yrs. I am going back another 3 weekends for this fair.
