Faire Fun for June 13 – 23, 2008

Alaska

Three Baron’s Renaissance Faire is over for the year. Christine and others reported having a good time. John Gomes attended again and has posted pictures in his My Alaska gallery.

Arizona

Renaissance in the Pines, formerly scheduled for this weekend, was cancelled on April 15, 2008.

California

The Register-Pajaronian ran an article in the eEdition, “Scottish Festival marches south” this week giving good reviews to the Scottish Renaissance Festival (formerly the Dragon Slayers Renaissance Festival) in Watsonville.

A Swashbuckler Festival takes place this weekend in Blue Jay (west side of Lake Arrowhead). Anheuser Busch is sponsoring the event which expects to have approximately twenty vendors.

Colorado

According to management, more than 15,000 patrons per day passed through the gates of the Colorado Renaissance Festival during their opening weekend. This coming weekend is the Royal Festival and the faire will thank military personnel and their families with a buy-one-get-one adult ticket special and their children get in free. A current Military ID is required to receive the ticket discount.

Illinois

The Jubilee Olde English Faire is this coming weekend on the grounds of Jubilee State Park in Brimfield. I found a great collection of photos taken by Wally Hartshorn in years past at this event.

Kentucky

It’s Masquerade Weekend at the Kentucky Highlands Renaissance Festival. Don your best mask–but make sure it goes with your outfit–for there’s a prize for the best combination. I found a trip report by Stephanie on MySpace about her family’s visit several weeks ago, it sounds like they had a great time. Discount tickets are available if ordered online through the ClickNPrint link on KHRF’s homepage

Maryland

The Barony of Highland Forde hosted the 19th annual Highland River Melees, sometimes known as the Hagerstown Renaissance Festival, an educational event full of authentic music, combat, and merchandise. Approximately 400 re-enactors, members of the Society for Creative Anachronism, welcomed almost 800 visitors to the grounds of the Jonathon Hager House for a weekend of well-researched activities. John Byran, Historic Sites Facilitator for the City of Hagerstown told me, “…from an organizers’ prospective I would have to say it was a good and successful event. We look forward to hosting an even bigger and better event in 2009.”

Michigan

Ravenshire Renaissance Faire in Flint begins Friday, running through Sunday. You’ll have the opportunity to witness live steel demonstrations, belly dancers, storytelling. There will be a School of Chivalry and vendors of all sorts. Details were provided by WXYZ.com

The Lake Superior Renaissance Faire swing open the gates to the Shire of Lochwold this weekend in Ironwood. The slate of entertainers looks interesting and the $1 discount on adult tickets provides incentive to get in to your garb.

Minnesota

The Olde World Renaissance Faire was this past weekend. In spite of rain Saturday night and a forecast which called for more on Sunday, both faire days had were pleasant. A Northlands Newscenter crew was on site and shot some video showing faire attendees enjoying themselves. Sorry about the commercial at the beginning.

Missouri

This coming Saturday, the Jefferson City Renaissance Festival will return to Binder Park with many of the performers from the recently ended Greater St Louis Renaissance Faire entertaining the attendees.

The White Hart Renaissance Faire begins its three week run on Saturday as the villagers of Hartgrove welcome Queen Elizabeth I to her personal deer park. Queen’s Gambit will perform and, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the Queen join them on stage for a song.

New York

It was a hot, humid weekend full of pirates at the Long Island Maritime Museum with the Long Island Pirate Festival taking over the place. The Crimson Pirates, along with many others, performed and had a great time.

Texas

The final weekend of the Central Texas Renaissance Festival is upon us. Food issues seemed to be worked for the second weekend. The website does not appear to have been updated and the $1 discount off the adult ticket price with a donation to Central Texas Food Bank is still listed.

Virginia

The Virginia Renaissance Faire ended last weekend. The interactivity of the cast is one of the things I always hear talked about and Sugar Mountain’s blog shows attests to that. Congratulations to the cast and crew who made it such an awesome run. For those of you already in withdrawal, I found some photos Ranmadoctor on Flickr and the RenaissanceFestival.com members are posting their pictures in the Virginia Renaissance Faire Forum.

The Stone Tower Glenn Renaissance Faire this weekend in Natural Chimney’s Park, Mt Solon, includes a masquerade ball on Saturday night and jousting each day.

Washington

The news I provided last week about Ye Merrie Greenwood Renaissance Faire was incorrect. The faire dates are June 28 & 29. Last weekend’s event was a one day mini-faire. My apologies.

The Northwest Renaissance Festival begins it’s five week run on Saturday, welcoming the visitors to the Village of Pleasance. I envy those of you who can attend this weekend and have the opportunity to see Tania Opland on stage. I’m a long time fan of hers. A $1 discount coupon is on the website.

Wisconsin

It’s Gypsy weekend at the Wisconsin Renaissance Festival in Chippewa Falls. Wear your best gypsy garb and join the parade, then learn to dance with them and, just maybe, you’ll be invited to dance for the Queen.

Ontario, Canada

This past weekends Medieval Festival at the Upper Canada Village Heritage Park had a great turn out on their Friday educational day. Over ninety schools brought students to learn about medieval life reported Megan Harrison of the Standard-Freeholder. Read her complete story at “Park takes a medieval turn

The Guelph Faery Festival this weekend will feature Queen Tatiana, her court, and numerous local entertainers.
