FaerieWorlds – Faire Fun for July 31-August 6, 2008

Oregon

FaerieWorlds, probably the biggest Faerie events of the year on the West Coast, begins tomorrow and lasts through Sunday at the Secret House Winery outside Eugene, Oregon. More than 150 exhibitors offering art and merchandise are planning to be on site. The promoters have expanded the site from last year and are expecting record breaking attendance.

Three days of amazing music, lasting til midnight on Fri & Sat, are scheduled to delight and entertain faeries of all ages. I’ve been listening to FaerieWorld’s MySpace playlist while writing today’s post and I am feeling a bit of Renvy for those who will get to experience that live.

Faerieworlds 2008 was great fun! I went on Saturday, Bad Faeries Day as Cabra d’Abra, the Wurst Accizard. The idea was that a spell cast by an evil witch meant any time I spoke of magic, I would speak in Spoonerisms. So that last sentence would come out like so: The idea was that a kell spast by a weevil itch meant any time I moke of spagic, I would spook in Speenerisms.

The costumes worn by so many of the folks attending ranged from the simple to the truly astonishing. There were wings everywhere, of course, with no two sets alike. There were goblins, satyrs, plenty of little princess faeries, and I wasn’t the only wizard there.

Faerieworlds always attracts some great vendors, and they were out in force, perhaps even more so after the Washington Renaissance Faire got cancelled for 2008. This year the Secret House folks opened up a new area to accomodate all the vendors and they put the Village Stage in that area to attract people.

The music was great, again, as always. The area in front of the Main Stage was full of folks dancing to the compelling rhythms of The Wicker Men, Gaia Consort, Kan’nal and more.

I’ve made a Squidoo lens (webpage) about Faerieworlds at http://www.squidoo.com/faerieworlds – there’s lots of info about the event. And I have several photo albums on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mobyd/ including one album for one of my Faerieworlds favorites, Tricky Pixie, and photos albums for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Welcome to FaireNews, MobyD. Thanks for sharing your review and pictures with my readers. And a special thanks for explaining what the Spoonerisms would read like. I had never quite understood it. You’ve got some talent if you can keep that up. Heck, sometimes I lose the words as I’m trying to say them, just gone right out of my mind.
