BC Renaissance Festival – Faire Fun for August 28-September 3, 2008
British Columbia, Canada
The BC Renaissance Festival is this weekend at Aldor Acres Farm in Fort Langley. Tickets are available at the gate or, for discount tickets, use the link on the website to purchase in advance via Paypal.
The cast and staff are working hard to make this the best season yet. Carla Sutherland, co-producer, is a good example of that. Not only is she helping produce the show, she’s also the media rep and entertainment co-ordinator, will present a children’s stage show, and is on cast as the village crazy lady (Gwendalynn Annan). Any one of those jobs will keep a person busy, yet Carla has found the time to develop a very detailed backstory and costume for Gwendalynn.
Gwendalynn believes herself to be half fairy, the daughter of a fairy Queen (all in her head), and she’s been kicked out from village to village because of her antics and imaginings and now she’s found a temporary home in Steller’s Grove. She gets to poke fun at the patrons and of course the villagers, although the village’s mad man Peter has become her friend

She carries a goofy looking satchel made from strings and sticks which she hides her treasures in, like a rainbow rock that she’ll insist is unicorn snot and so forth
She’s also got a hurdy gurdy (which I’m teaching myself to play), that she believes was a gift from her mother that instead of a seed growing into a tree, it grew into the instrument (the sound holes are in the shapes of trees and there are leaves painted on the instrument). Such an instrument can be used to repel or attract others, hehe.
Ed Appleby, another performer at the festival, is also a cartoonist and designed the following to encourage attendance:

Thank you so much for this small article about us. Allow me to introduce myself. Christina here. Captain Charity Ann Rackham of the BCRF (as well as producer, writer, co fight coordinator, etc and so on…). Carla has told me all about you and I am delighted to be returning to the ‘rennie world’. I moved across county 7 years ago and was used to Maryland and Ontario’s renfests and am thrilled to be starting one here in BC. I can only hope that it will grow and the BC populace will come to see how wonderful such a thing can be. Our dates for next year are coming soon so keep checking on the webpage. We also have a myspace ( myspace.com/bcrenfest) so also feel free to come on over and friend us.
Well met!!!
Christina
