Renaissance Faire News - Sharing the Joy of Faire, one post at a time at FaireNews.com!!

The "Have You Met?" series introduces you to some of the people who make Faire a joy!

Looking back at February 11-19, 2008

February 14 saw the third curtain rise on “Wine, Dine, and Séance” at the Mount Hope Winery, site of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Festival. One reviewer, Emily Barton, wrote about enjoying the show in her blog post “Ghostly Encounters” and it’s quite a funny read. There will be two more chances to catch the show during their final weekend, February 22 & 23.

Feb 16-17 saw auditions for Tennessee Renaissance Festival, Fisher’s Renaissance Festival, and Virginia Renaissance Faire. Hope everyone that wanted to make it out was able to and that we’ll see lots of you at faire. Break a leg, everyone.

Feb 16-18

The Arizona Renaissance Festival had mud and cold but, thank the Powers-That-Be, the rain stopped for the weekend. The RenaissanceFestival.com gathering went without a hitch. Sounds like everyone had a great time.

The Florida Renaissance Festival

There was some rain this weekend but it luckily stayed dry while we were there. My plans to see WyldeFyre and Fushu Daiko fell through, but I rode more rides and played more games than I knew existed. The grounds were in pretty good shape if you can forget all the trees removed to make way for native species. I hope the replanting of native trees will return the lanes to shade sooner rather than later.

This was our first faire to take the babes in garb and only their second faire. Having added the garb, they seemed to attract more attention. Our son was interested in any game, ride, and challenge, so he kept us hopping. Our daughter looked and watched everything, enjoying the rides but shy about talking to anyone. Prince Arthur (Joel Newlon), the RenFaeries and Troll, a merchant pyrate, and a lady of the Court (my apologies, I’ve forgotten which) each tried very hard to get her to interact with them. Though she enjoyed watching and doing, she wasn’t having anything to do with anyone unless there was a treasure involved.

Announcements

On February 4, 2008, United Airlines made an announcement that customers who purchase nonrefundable domestic economy tickets, and do not have status in Mileage Plus or Star Alliance, may check one bag free and a second bag for a $25 service fee. For those of you flying to faire, this may cause an issue. I know that when the FaireNews crew went to WickedFaire two weeks ago, we had three bags to check. If other airlines follow suit, as is likely, we will be checking on the price of shipping our garb instead of bringing it with us.

A post at RenaissanceFestival.com from the Furnaces’, landowners and promoters of Kings Realm Renaissance Festival, explains the cancellation of this faire. The faire no longer appears on the Faire News calendar and this is the last post on this topic.

Historic Enterprises announced The American “Sword of Chivalry” Tournament 2008™ in Poway, California, on April 26 & 27, 2008. The Royal Armories of Leeds, England, is officially sanctioning the event.

The “The Post-Standard” reported the sale on Syracuse.com and the new owner posted at RenaissanceFestival.com.
