Renaissance Faire News - Sharing the Joy of Faire, one post at a time at FaireNews.com!!

The "Have You Met?" series introduces you to some of the people who make Faire a joy!

Looking Forward to February 28 – March 6, 2008

February 28

Porter and Stout will record a live CD tonight. See my earlier post for full details. Looks like there will be a contingent there from the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival as well as those who are local from the Great Lakes Medieval Faire. Good luck to Porter & Stout; may the crowd be overwhelming, every instrument in perfect tune, and the Pirate’s able carry perfect pitch.

Owain Phyfe will be playing open microphone night at Down Under Wines at the Chandler Fashion Center, Chandler, Arizona from ~6:30 PM to ~8:30 PM. Down Under is located on the Chandler Blvd side of the mall and is in the little strip mall directly south of PF Chang’s. Owain let a local Renthusiast know and said he would love to see fans there.

March 1 & 2

Auditions

Bristol Renaissance Faire holds auditions by appointment this weekend. Check scheduling details. For a Florida girl, the weather looks daunting with a high forecast at 29° on Saturday. At least it is supposed to be sunny. Sunday’s temperatures look better but there is supposed to be rain. For those of you heading out to audition, be safe. I do not want “break a leg” to take on a completely different meaning.

The Southern Connecticut Faire is holding open auditions with no appointment necessary. Weather there is a toss up too, with temperatures in the 40s both days but snow forecast for Saturday.

Open Faires

The Arizona Renaissance Festival, Bay Area Renaissance Festival, and Florida Renaissance Festivals continue this weekend and it looks like all three will have great weather with no rain forecast. DO NOT forget your sunscreen (try Sun-X SPF+30 Sunscreen Towelettes). Looking at their schedules, I see quite a few shows that I would like to attend at each.

It is Pirate Weekend at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. There will be a kid’s costume contest on Saturday and an adult’s contest on Sunday. Ummmmm, Pyrates! With twelve stages, there are lots to see and that without doing any shopping. Looking at the entertainment schedule, there are so many shows I would like to see. If anyone gets a chance, let me know what you think of “Three Guys and a Bunch of Drums.” They sound intriguing.

If you like chocolate, this is the weekend to be at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival as they celebrate the Chocolate Extravaganza. Try the free samples as you watch expert chocolatiers demonstrate their specialties. There’s both a food and blood drive going on this weekend and next. Both result in a buy-one-get-one-free offer. I was going to recommend seeing Shea Laurel but, from their tour schedule, it appears that they were only there opening weekend. For either end of the musical spectrum, catch shows by Empty Hats and Cantiga.

The Friday night pubsing on The Florida Renaissance Festival grounds sounds like fun, an early start to get in the mood. The Paladin Society will again coordinate the Knight’s Challenge, a competition to test the strength, skill, wit of participating patrons. An individually assigned page escorts each contestant through the challenge. There are prizes for both the weekly and the overall winners. It sounds like fun, check it out.

Two new faires open this weekend

Gulf Coast Renaissance Festival, Pensacola, Florida, is a one-weekend faire now in its sixth year. Those who have attended always speak highly of both the Court and the entertainment. Great weather is expected. There is a long list of acts, so many so that King Allyn The Only told me “I find it hard to imagine all of those because we only have 3 stage areas, but I am only the King what do I know.”

Four Winds Renaissance Faire, south of Tyler, Texas, will open with their Family Weekend. Each adult admission purchased will also admit one child aged 12 or under. There is rain in the forecast, do what you can to stay dry and warm.

Final Notes:

The Faire News crew will be staying home this weekend, catching up on things before the house falls down around our ears. Have a great week, everyone, and … enjoy faire!!
