*chuckling* Thanks for the clarification on the ownership there, Derek, glad to know that it's not Kevin who's owned *grinning*

A note from the Academy came in yesterday with a revised time schedule. Classes will now begin at 7pm, allowing students a little extra time between getting out of work and needing to be in class.

I wish we were closer to Largo, I'd be interested in some of the classes.

Hey all... Derek here...

Just wanted to clarify that I'm not "Kevin's co-owner". ;)

I am, however, co-owner -with- Kevin of the Academy of Combative Arts.

We recently had our first class; Kevin taught basic footwork and broadsword; I then took over and taught basics of period Italian rapier.

Guaranteed, things we have planned to teach, in addition to things in the works down the road, have not been taught nor offered in this area.

Our goal is simple: Provide a training hall (which we have) and structured classes to allow those who want to excel within this medium the opportunity to do so. The performers locally have a great deal of talent... our facilities are there to allow that talent to be honed, practiced, and subsequently expounded on.

We've stated the following from the get-go: No one gets better without classes, nor does anyone expand their repetoire without being taught. We want to foster a family-like environment of like-minded people who (much like martial artists attending a dojo) are willing to work to perfect their art. And, let's face it, it -is- an art, comprised of many western martial arts.

I know that personally, I've trained in specific period weapons which I've never taught, nor have I seen utilized in shows here. Ever. I'd like to pass that knowledge along.

Anyone interested... come join us. ;)

Regards,
-Derek Conley
