Texas Renaissance Festival audition time!

Texas

Texas RenFest’s casting call is upon us! Someone brought a post made on RenaissanceFestival.com by Stacy Bakri, Performance Company Assistant Director, to my attention this morning and I thought I’d pass it along. Sorry about the short notice but sometimes things done on the fly bring out the best spontaneity.

Tomorrow (May 2) and next Saturday (May 9) are the audition dates. You do need an appointment, so call (800) 458-3435 today and talk to Entertainment Director Jeff Baldwin to set your time!

ALL POSITIONS ARE PAID and they are seeking performers to portray the following:

  • English Nobility
  • Italian Nobility
  • German Nobility
  • Scottish Nobility
  • French Nobility
  • Spanish Nobility
  • Transylvanian Nobility
  • Barbarians
  • Fae
  • Elves (Christmas Elves)
  • Pirates
  • Robin Hood’s Merry Men
  • Puppeteers

Any special skill or talents you might have are a plus.

See Texas Renaissance Festival’s audition page for all the details.

Hey I have a few questions first of all I am interested in the barbarian position. I have absolutely no skill but I do have chain maile that I made myself and would like to flaunt it around lol. I am 25 and love the renfaire. Also I am curious if the renfaire pays cash because I am currently drawing unemployment and do not want to loose it due to a job I am only working for 2 months and only on the weekends. Could you please assist me. I will be greatly appreciative for any info you can provide me with and in advance would like to thank you for your time.

Aodin (hopefully one day the Barbarian!)

Hi, Aodin, and welcome to FaireNews. I don’t have any advice to offer regarding working at TRF. I’d suggest contacting the Entertainment Director at the number given. I don’t know if they’re still hiring or not. We’re planning on a trip to TRF this year so maybe … we’ll see you at Faire!

It has been my pleasure to visit my family in Houston and attend your wonderful Renaissance Festival. This Sept. I will be moving to Spring and would love to work at the Festival. I have worked in the Florist, Restaurant and Retail industries and have no handicaps. Would it still be possible to “find a job” with you. It would truly be the dream of a lifetime. If not, I’ll still be there to enjoy myself. Many thanks for your consideration.

Hi, Sue, and welcome. FaireNews will be at TRF strictly for the enjoyment of it, no work to be done. The Texas Renaissance Faire’s Job Faire is this weekend, Aug 8 & 9, 2009, out at the Faire site. Check out TRF Job Faire for all the details.

Aodin um… No they don’t pay cash. It’s buy check and you have to fill out a W2. P.S. If you work under the table for cash while on unemployment that is FRAUD!

I used to be in the performance company. I think I was paid $65 a weekend. I wasn’t a man character. Every year you work there you are paid more. The bigger the character the more you’re paid.

Thanks for that info, Angela, and welcome to FaireNews. From you’re comment, I’m guessing you aren’t with the performance company anymore. Do you still go to out to TRF? We’ll be there for All Hallow’s Eve weekend. Keep an eye out and say Hi!

I’m going to Westbrook Intermediate and in theater arts and we were given the opportunity to audition at RenFest. I really want to but I’m super nervous about the auditions. Especially with no sites to help prepare me or to tell me what to expect. Is there any way I can prepare and feel comfortable at auditions?
And any help with accent training?

Welcome to FaireNews, Sarah. I checked the RenaissanceFestival.com forums just now and found a thread there about the 2010 TRF auditions. Staci Bakri, Assistant Director of the Performance Company, posted the audition info and is answering questions. You can find that thread at RenaissanceFestival.com Forums > South > Texas Renaissance Festival > Did Someone Mention Auditions.

The most frequent advise I see and hear from Entertainment Directors is smile, have fun, be willing to try anything, and don’t get your hopes set on a specific character. I know that if you’re selected, they run you through an intensive series of workshops that include improv and accents.

I’d suggest you read the thread I linked to and, if you have more specific questions, ask them there.

Good luck and maybe someday … we’ll see you at Faire!
