The "Have You Met?" series introduces you to some of the people who make Faire a joy!

Faire Fun for June 20 – 30, 2008

California

Pirates will be storming the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier for the Long Beach Pirate Invasion and Faire this coming Saturday and Sunday. It’s a free event with music, booty booths, grog, and a costume contest.

Based on the pictures I’ve seen (in a MySpace album that’s not public so I can’t share), it looks like the Swashbuckler Festival last weekend in Blue Jay was a lot of fun.

The Fair Oaks Tudor Faire takes place in Fair Oaks this weekend. Mix96.com is running a sweepstakes to win four tickets to the faire.

Colorado

Join the villagers for a Celtic Fling at the Colorado Renaissance Festival this coming weekend. Special shows include a Men-in-Kilts contest and the 5th Annual Fiddlers Contest. Area King Soopers locations have discount tickets available for purchase and discount coupons are available at participating Wendy’s and Diamond Shamrock Corner Stores.

Rafferty the Piper, 2008 Bay Area Renaissance Festival, Tampa, Florida - picture by Leinad ThornwolfA second faire is always a good thing and that’s what Coloradans have the luck of this weekend. The Kingdom of Mancos will open the gates to the shire at the Cottonwood Park in Mancos. Rafferty the Piper will be at the Mancos Renaissance Faire along with many other performers. If you’ve never had a chance to hear him play, take time to do so. Tickets are only $2 for adults and $1 for 6-18.

Illinois

The Jubilee Olde English Faire was this past weekend and Albannach was there to perform. One participant said it was standing room only at all their shows.

Kentucky

It’ll be a Romantic Weekend for the ladies attending the Kentucky Highlands Renaissance Festival. The Lords of Briarwood shall endeavor to treat each Lady as the royalty that she is. Discount tickets are still available if ordered online through the ClickNPrint link on KHRF’s homepage. I found another blog post, this time by Erin in her Thurday Pass blog, full of pictures from the masquerade weekend.

Michigan

WLUCtv reported that more than 1000 turned out for the Lake Superior Renaissance Faire this past weekend in Ironwood.

Derbyshire Renaissance Faire continues this weekend as their second and final weekend winds down with the Archery Contest. Phrooge Designs Photography posted pictures of opening day. Looks like they had a wonderful time.

Missouri

The White Hart Renaissance Faire continues for the second of its three week run. This weekend only you can see the Lord Mayor’s Company and Cedric the fiddler.

New Jersey

For our northeast fantasy enthusiasts, Jeff Mach’s Totally Normal Event is this coming Saturday to Whippany. The setting is a universe much like our own, only one in which most fantasy, mythology, and science fiction is essentially true. The premise is that, under the guise of being some sort of convention for normal humans who dress up, we’re actually those creatures of myth, disguised.

New Mexico

The Cloudcroft Renaissance Fantasy Faire, open this weekend at the Cool Pines RV Park east of Cloudcroft, will feature numerous re-enactors guilds, faeries galore, a joust, belly dancers, a concert by Shauna Burns, and shopping. It’s a family event with extremely reasonable admission.

Pennsylvania

The Western Pennsylvania Fairy Festival, scheduled for this coming weekend at Slippery Rock, has been cancelled.

Washington

This is really the weekend for Ye Merrie Greenwood Renaissance Faire in Richland. If you missed getting to see Tania Opland and Mike Freeman at the NW Renaissance Festival last weekend, you’ve got another chance.

The Northwest Renaissance Festival continues this weekend. They’ve got BOWI, a Celtic band, as special entertainment for the visitors to the Village of Pleasance. A $1 discount coupon is on the website.

Wisconsin

Put on your tartans and show off those knees, it’s Celtic Weekend at at the Wisconsin Renaissance Festival in Chippewa Falls. There’ll be kilt and brogue contests, cabbage bowling, and good Celtic music. Tickets are available at local Mega Pick N Save Food and Liquor stores. Maggs Creations, a blog by a merchant at the faire, includes some pictures and talk. I enjoyed reading and hope you will too.
