You may wonder what an anime convention and a combat entertainment company have to do with Renaissance faires. There is a tie in, I promise. Cutting Edge Combative Entertainment is the parent organization that presented the Acrobelum Acrobat Troupe at the 2008 Bay Area Renaissance Faire. In its Renaissance configuration, the troupe consisted of four men and a woman who provided entertainment in the lanes, tumbling and balancing on pretty much anything that was motionless. They were also a featured part of the Queen’s Tea. At the end of the season, Acrobelum was voted “2008 Ensemble of the Year” at the cast and management party.
This weekend, Cutting Edge will present a completely different show for patrons at MetroCon 6. On Friday and Saturday evenings at 6pm on the Riverwalk, join the characters from “Avatar – The Last Airbender” for an outdoor fight show as they compete in a “Tournament of the Elements” to see what bending style is the greatest. Later, at 10pm, Avatar characters will perform with real fire and special affects in a celebration of Fire.
MetroCon is Friday – Sunday (July 18-20, 2008) at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida.
