Renaissance Faire News - Sharing the Joy of Faire, one post at a time at FaireNews.com!!

The "Have You Met?" series introduces you to some of the people who make Faire a joy!

Looking Back at February 4-10, 2008

Reports from attendees of the Re-enactors Fest indicate that all had a good time. The Florida Renaissance Festival (FlaRF) and Arizona Renaissance Festival (AzRF) both opened this weekend. FlaRF had a huge rainstorm, including hail, Saturday afternoon but the show went on. AzRF, on the other hand, had bright sunny weather. From the reviews I’ve found, sounds like both faires were enjoyed.

WickedFaire 2008

Now on to the event I attended. WickedFaire 3 in Edison, New Jersey, was an absolute blast. It’s an adult faire held in a Holiday Inn with attached restaurant and conference center, everything self-contained. There was some concern before the event started regarding the ownership change of the hotel and Jeff Mach, the show promoter, will be dealing with that for some time to come. Despite hotel issues, it neither stopped nor slowed down the event.

After garbing, our first stop on the showroom floor was at Mayfaire Moon, where Leinad greeted Ysobelle and they discussed the corset and miniskirt won in the Tartan Terrors auction. We picked out the fabric and arranged to have measurements made. Many trips around the entire floor–six rooms in total–occurred because there is always something that we missed the time before. Greeting old and new friends with much flirting and laughter, Leinad and I had a wonderful time.

Friday evening, we caught shows by Patricia Wake, Dinty the Moor, Matt deBlass, and Aaron Glotfelter the Erotic Hypnotist. Dinty included me as one of the audience volunteers in his kiss to card transfer set. Very enjoyable and I proudly wore the card and paper rose in my bodice for the rest of the evening. I’ll add those items to my favors collection. After the event closed for the evening, we went by Long Island Meadery to sample the various labels before moving on to a private party. I have to say that I still prefer the mead kept in the cellars of the Shadow’s Hold to any I have found commercially available.

Harold of Harold's New York Deli

Saturday morning found us in need of sustenance before the required room change (yes, we were one of those who had reservation issues), so a trip to Harold’s New York Deli was in order. “Trip” though is somewhat of a misnomer as the Deli has an entrance off the hotel lobby. The food was outstanding and in huge quantities with pancakes larger than the dinner plate they came on and omelets that would feed two with some left over. Harold and his wife were on site Saturday morning greeting and seating the attendees, though only Harold was present on Sunday morning when Leinad took pictures.

Saturday afternoon started with the fitting for the corset then, laced into the leather bodice, we wandered about aimlessly, enjoying the atmosphere, the friends, the music, the general mischief and mayhem that abounded. Shows attended include Rabbit Stampede, Captain Zorikh, The Circle, NeidFyre, Daniel Greenwolf, and The Renaissance Man. All the shows were enjoyable though, with my preference for music, my favorites were NeidFyre and Rabbit Stampede.

Several friends from the RenaissanceFestival.com forums were about the place on Saturday night and we tried to get a group photo. Somehow we had lost a few and ended up with only four until we realized the kind Vyxen taking pictures for us is a member also. We coerced her to be included but ended up losing the guys. Ah, well, such is life, two pictures instead of one.

Jeff and his corps of volunteers kept the event running smoothly. When the raffle by EdenFantasys exceeded all expectations, they took the need for a venue change in stride. When room reservations were messed up, they made sure everyone had a place to stay. They handled many little things without the masses ever knowing there was any trouble. They did a great job and those of us who attended appreciate them so much.

It was late Saturday evening when Jeff made the announcement everyone had been waiting on. With 98% surety, there will be a WickedFaire4. He has even gone so far as to announce next year’s theme, “The Wicked Chocolate Factory.” I’m sure we’ll have a great time next year too.
