Local rib team takes top awards at Holly festival
The staff at Meats & Mooore has added one more trophy to the shop’s meat counter after taking first place at the first Buccaneer BBQ Contest Aug. 30 through Sept. 1 at the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly.
When all was said and done, Meats & Mooore took first place in three categories – pork ribs, beef ribs and beans – and the People’s Choice award in all three categories, according to Greg Buzzard, manager of the shop. The local cookers competed against seven other barbecuers from around the area.
Buzzard’s team also won a trip for six to the Florida Renaissance Festival.
Actually, the team won a trip for six to the 2009 Bay Area Renaissance Festival in Tampa, Florida. Bay Area and Michigan Renaissance Festivals are both owned by Mid-America Festivals.
