Faire fun for May 17-26, 2008
Memorial Day weekend is upon us and many of the faires will open their gates all three days. The FaireNews crew will be at Tennessee Renaissance Festival for our Handfasting, as well as to participate in Ménage ‘Ette Trois and the 3rd RenaissanceFestival.com RenDezvous.
California
Koroneburg European Old World Festival continues this weekend with a late night on Saturday, staying open until 9pm. They have a $3 discount coupon available.
Renaissance Pleasure Faire of Southern California ended this past weekend. According to attendees, it exceeded 100º both days but that doesn’t seem to have affected the turn out much. It may be over, but I had a good time looking at pictures posted over at Flickr by Hot Rod Ron and Claimsmantoo. There are a lot more over there, but I decided I’d better get back to work on this post.
Georgia
The Georgia Renaissance Festival celebrates Memorial Day by staying open all three days of the holiday weekend and offering a $4 discount for Police, Fire, Military and EMT with a valid ID. The rest of us can get discount tickets by using the link to click and print from home.
Michigan
The gates of Marshallmoor swung wide this past weekend as Mayfaire Renaissance Festival welcomed visitors. Stephanie Antonian Rutherford of The Battle Creek Enquirer wrote about participants at the faire in her article “Living in a ‘fantasy world’” . They’ll be open all three days of the Memorial Day weekend and have a discount ticket coupon for $1 off gate prices on the website.
Minnesota
Minnesota Renaissance Festival will hold cast auditions at the Canterbury Inn in Shakopee again this weekend.
Missouri
Greater St Louis Renaissance Festival opened this past weekend and I’ve already seen one set of pictures posted by Sir Clisto. There’s a $2 discount ticket coupon available for printing at home.
Nebraska
Midwest Renaissance Festival (formerly the Renaissance Faire of the Midlands) opens Saturday and runs through Memorial Day. Music and jousting, merchants and courtly matters will fill the days. They are running several ticket discount promotions including food for a discount, military discount, and a discount coupon.
New Jersey
The West Windsor Lion’s Club holds their annual Renaissance Faire this weekend to raise fund for sight and hearing organizations. This family event will include fighting and jousting from medieval re-enactors.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Renaissance Festival continues this weekend. Information about ticket prices, and how to get a discount, are available on the Hours & Prices page. You can also pick up a “$2.00 off” coupon at Wendy’s.
Tennessee
Covington Glen’s final weekend is upon us and it’s all about the Joust at the Tennessee Renaissance Festival. Competitors from all over the world will come together for the 2008 Gath of Baal International Jousting Tournament. Preliminary competitions take place all weekend and the finals will be on Monday.
Texas
Scarborough Renaissance Festival also ends this weekend with special appearances by Jim Greene, aka Emrys Fleet the Rat Catcher, and Owain Phyfe. The History, Customs, and Manners class “Fashion in 1553”, held by the tree near the front gate just before morning court dance, includes a fashion show with different people showing what was fashionable for period and classes of the time. There will be a period church service in the wedding chapel garden area on Sunday morning. Moreover, this is your last chance, ever, to catch The Corsairs. After their performance this weekend, the band is going their separate ways. Even King Henry VIII thinks you should be there and tells you about it on YouTube.
Virginia
Beautiful skies favored Saturday’s opening and, while Sunday was rainy, all pictures and reports I’ve seen indicate it was a good faire weekend. This weekend the Virginia Renaissance Festival will celebrate Military History, a fitting theme for the three day Memorial Day weekend.
Wisconsin
The third annual Janesville Renaissance Faire was this past weekend. Though the weather was cold, the pictures and reports that I saw indicate they had a great time.
The Woden Thor Medieval Feast & Joust takes place in Virouqa this weekend, offering jousting, music, storytelling and more. Billed as a family faire, they have several discounts available to make sure costs stay reasonable, including a pass for all three days and a Family Pass discount ticket package.
