Renaissance Faire News - Sharing the Joy of Faire, one post at a time at FaireNews.com!!

The "Have You Met?" series introduces you to some of the people who make Faire a joy!

Are you a Bounding Mainiac?

I received the following via Bounding Main’s mailing list and thought some of you might A) be fans and B) not get their newsletter. You can remedy that by visiting the Bounding Main Mailing List page and signing up. In the meantime, you’ve got one week to prove how big a Mainiac you are:

Are you planning to come to our show at the Skokie Theatre Nov. 15? We are working hard on bringing you some unique goodies in this show, including several new songs. We hope to see lots of you there!

How would you like to stand at the microphone and introduce Bounding Main, welcoming us onto the stage for the Skokie show? Here’s your new contest:

1. Write an introduction – it can be as long or as short as you like, but remember that humor goes far with us. This is your chance to bring out that long-held secret that only you know about us. Or pull out your best Ed McMahon impression. Or, you know, just say a few kind words about your pals in Bounding Main.

2. Send your entry/entries directly to me, by email.

3. From the entries, we will choose the top 3 finalists. We will call you up and have you do your intro over the phone On Sunday Oct 26, and from there we will judge the best of the best.

The prize for the winner:

**Introducing Bounding Main in a pivotal show!
and
**2 tickets to the show!

The deadlines for entries is Wednesday Oct 22.

Bounding Main is a crew of veteran environmental theater performers with the love of music and the sea in their blood. Performing together since 2003, they preserve the Elizabethan Sea Dog look in their costumes and gear. The six friends sing sea shanties and maritime ballads – both traditional and original – from 400 years ago through today. Bounding Main shows are filled with spirit, humor and harmony; their arrangements of traditional nautical music bring the listener into the world of pirates, adventure and romance.

Just saw this in the Bounding Main newsletter:

And now, there’s more fun to be had after the show! Join Mainiacs Sandra, Andy, and Faith Howard, as well as whichever Bounding Main members are still standing upright … for some Irish conviviality (and maybe a pint or two) at Curragh Irish Pub, 8266 Lincoln, Skokie. In Andy’s words:

Curragh is just three blocks north of your concert venue, so it’ll be easy to get there. It’s a revival of a place that used to be in the parking lot of Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. The Skokie site is small–it seats perhaps 30–but Sandra, Faith, and I ate there this past weekend, and we were pleased with the food, drink, and atmosphere. Their kitchen will probably be closed by the time your concert ends, but the bar stays open late, and I think they have pizza even after the kitchen closes. NO RSVP needed.

We are very much looking forward to this Saturday. We see this concert as part of a new performance era for Bounding Main, and thus our hopes for a very successful show are high. We sincerely hope lots of our Dear Mainiacs can share in it.

PS I have a correction: previously I said we will introduce four new Bounding Main songs … but actually, there will be a total of five new songs, including one very special sing-along.

Whoa! Hey! We have ANOTHER concert at the Skokie Theatre coming right up! Here’s the copy from our site: http://www.boundindingmain.com

Back by popular demand, Bounding Main returns to perform in concert at the beautiful and historic Skokie Theatre! We filled the house last year and we are delighted to grace the stage again in 2009. The Skokie Theatre is a centrally located venue for our fans in Milwaukee and Chicago. Come hear the richly harmonic renditions of traditional seafaring tunes that have brought joy to so many on both sides of the Atlantic. Entertainers as well as vocalists, enjoy the fun and humor that is a Bounding Main show!

Showtime is 7:30 and tickets will be $20 in advance, $25 at the door Preferred pricing will be $15 (by phone only tell them “Crazy as Crickets”). http://www.skokietheatre.com

Here’s a flyer to print out: http://www.boundingmain.com/pdf/2009SkokieTheatreFlyerV5.pdf Or you can email it to friends!

We hope to see you there!
