How to Find Current Information about Renaissance Faires

That’s been the topic of conversation several times last week, both at FaireNews.com and on Twitter (@FaireNews). It’s a difficult subject because Faires and Festivals are independently run by promoters all over the country. Some promoters own more than one Faire—Mid-America, for example, owns Minnesota Renaissance Festival, Bay Area (FL) Renaissance Festival, Michigan Renaissance Festival, and a couple of others.

There are several resources that we use here at FaireNews and I thought I’d share them with you.

RenaissanceFestival.com Faire Directory – Their directory is great if you’re trying to find all the Faires in or near a certain area because the default view is a map of the United States.

The Directorie – One of the options in the Directorie is a list of Faires by date. This is great if you’re trying to find out the dates of a certain event. They also have a list of Faires by location, sorted in State/City order.

RenFaire.com Faires by State – An extensive list of Faires and Festivals, grouped by State, and including on the months of operation on the home page.

RenFestUSA.com – Another extensive list of events sorted by location or month. This website includes other types of events where period costumes can be found, such as Celtic Faires, Dickens Faires, and Pirate events.

The thing to remember about all these sites is that they’re only going to be as accurate as the data submitted and the input done. For the most part, we use these resources to find events in a certain location or by month. The best sites include a link to the Faire & Festival home pages. If the promoter has kept things up to date, that’s where you find the most current information.

Good luck finding Faires to visit and one of these days … we’ll see you at Faire!!

Not as complete, another resource is the Scribe network, Scribe.Faire.Net

    Welcome to FaireNews, tmana!

Scribe network has been my “go to” site on occasions when a very old Faire name crops up. From what I can tell, they never take a name down. Instead, they add cross reference notes to the new event name. That’s been a real help at times.
